About Totala

Totala is a free net worth tracker for people who want to understand where their money is going over years, not days. It is built and run by one person, funded by nobody, and it will never ask for your bank login.

Who builds it

Totala is made by Richard Ortiz, a software engineer. It started as a spreadsheet for tracking his own net worth across several countries and currencies, became a small app when the spreadsheet stopped scaling, and is now used by people with the same problem.

It is an independent project. There are no investors, no board, and nobody whose returns depend on how much of your data we can collect.

Why there are no bank connections

Nearly every other tracker connects to your bank through an aggregator. That means handing over credentials to a third party, and it means your dashboard silently breaks every time a bank changes something — which is often.

Totala asks you to confirm your balances once a month instead. It takes under a minute, the numbers are right because you entered them, and there is no credential anywhere to leak. The trade-off is real and it is not for everyone; we wrote about when manual tracking wins and when it doesn't.

How it stays free

Totala is free, with no paid tier today. It costs very little to run: your data lives on your own device first, and syncing is a small amount of text.

If a paid tier ever arrives it will be for features that cost money to provide, and the core — tracking your net worth across portfolios and currencies — will stay free. Your data will never be the product. You can export everything at any time, in a format you can open elsewhere.

What it is not

Totala is not a financial adviser, and nothing in the app or on this site is financial advice. It shows you your own numbers and the arithmetic that follows from them. What you do about those numbers is yours to decide, ideally with someone qualified.

Getting in touch

The fastest route is the help button inside the app — it reaches a person, not a queue. Before that, the help pages cover most of what people ask.

Try it without an account

The demo is the real app with sample data in it. Nothing to sign up for.
